Homesickness for the flavours of his childhood brought Asori Soto back to Cuba. After 10 years of living in the US, he wanted to know if all the delicious dishes he remembered still existed. Had the culinary traditions of yesteryear survived the economic decline since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, which had been Cuba’s main sponsor?
In nine stories, Soto goes looking for remnants of the old traditions. Nine expeditions within his native country lead him to the major cities as well as to extremely remote and difficult to reach places, of which some are only accessible on horseback or by swimming to them. His journey shows that authentic Cuban cuisine is still thriving, but Soto also discovers new developments. In short: Soto had made a film about present-day Cuba that makes your mouth water.
