World Cinema Amsterdam 2022: Cine Chile!

A special focus program on Chilean cinema during WCA 2022.

In collaboration with the team of Cine y Center de Creacíon (CCC) from Santiago de Chile, World Cinema Amsterdam will present a special focus program on Chilean cinema: Cine Chile.

Part of this program are titles such as the Dutch premiere of La Vaca que cantó una cancíon sobre el futuro (2022) by Francisca Alegría, Mis hermanos sueñan despiertos (2021) by Claudia Huaiquimilla and the debut film Perro Bomba (2019) by Juan Cáceres.

Chile is a modern democracy with major contradictions, which translates into a rich program with special and controversial films about (sexual) identity, diversity & immigration and resistance against dictatorship and hard-fought democracy. Film buffs are probably familiar with Pablo Larraín's most recent films, but Chile produces beautiful films every year that are invariably selected for festivals such as Berlin, Cannes, Venice, Locarno and our own IFFR, which are less known here. Time to bring this talent to the Netherlands and present it.

Raymond Walravens - Director of Rialto and curator of World Cinema Amsterdam

In addition to Cine Chile, the annual WCA Competition and GO CUBA! will also be part of the festival. The WCA Competition includes the Dutch premiere of Baqyt (2022) by Askar Uzabayev and Casablanca Beats (2021) by Nabil Ayouch (released by Cinéart). The short film Tundra (2022) by José Luis Aparicio is part of the GO CUBA! program.

World Cinema Amsterdam 2022 takes place from Saturday 20 to Saturday 27 August at the main locations of Rialto VU, Rialto De Pijp and De Balie.
