WCA 2022 has begun!

A look back at a successful opening weekend.

We have started! Last Saturday World Cinema Amsterdam 2022 finally and officially kicked off. Our new main venue Rialto VU served as the stage for the start of already the twelfth edition; time to look back on a successful opening.

Saturday we kicked off with an exclusive screening of opening film Nana by Kamila Andini, she was part of WCA before with her film The Seen And Unseen in 2019. Host Fadoua Alaoui steered the evening in the right direction and where the screening started with opening speech by director and curator Raymond Walravens, the evening ended with all invitees and a festive drink in Bar Boele.

The Cine Chile focus programme started on Sunday with introductions by co-curator and director Dominga Sotomayor and Diego García González of the Embassy of Chile in the Netherlands. We screened debut film 1976 by director Manuela Martelli and supporting film Bestia (Hugo Covarrubias), Martelli herself will be present on Friday 26 August for a Q&A after the screening of her film in Rialto De Pijp.

In the meantime, the festival is running at full speed: tonight Het Filmgesprek will take place with the Haitian competition film Freda, throughout the week there will be Q&As with the present directors, next to several in-depth programmes that you can find on our website. Take a look below for an impression of the opening, which also serves as a foretaste of the closing ceremony and the free to attend closing party with Cuban DJ Angél next Saturday in Bar Boele!

WCA will take place until 27 August. Buy your tickets online!
