WCA Presents: Evani Gilds

Evani Gilds (1991) makes sensitive films, which the jury of Rialto for Short immediately noticed. Evani is a self-made filmmaker, someone who taught herself a profession and does so with great passion, often without any financial support. Young people discovering various sides of their identity is a recurring theme in his work, just like the appreciation of an old friendship. The VPRO also picked up on his talent, and showed his short Mira Akí! on TV. It is one of the four shorts by him that will be shown this evening. Evani himself will explain the developments in his work. His regular, very close-knit crew will also have their say.

Block 1

Mira Akí!
2' | Dutch spoken | English subtitled
A visual interpretation of Alfred Schaffer's poem of the same name, in which a boy comes face to face with a Moor during his dream.

Drie gezichten
10' | Dutch spoken | English subtitled
In three monologues, in three different faces, a nameless person addresses his family, his friends and finally himself.

Block 2

Blauw op het strand
14' | Dutch spoken | English subtitled
Two girlfriends who have not seen each other for a long time meet each other on the beach. Memories are recalled. Their paths in life appear to have taken different directions, yet there are similarities.

Block 3

Morgenstilte
8' | Dutch spoken | English subtitled
A feverish dream, with a dystopian edge, of three individuals who have the strong desire to be heard - an experimental, short project where dance, theatre and cinema come together.
