Sister & Sister (Las hijas)
Two sisters travel from Costa Rica to Panama to track down their father, who left home many years ago. The two girls are quite unalike: 17-year-old Marina is spontaneous and outspoken, 14-year-old Luna is more introverted. Their differences in character regularly cause friction. When they arrive, they are lovingly welcomed by Mafer, a friend of their mother. The weather is warm and sunny, perfect for skateboarding in the park, where the girls meet and hang out with some local teens. Luna kisses a boy for the first time, but she doesn't really like it. Marina also has a summer romance with one of the skaters, much to Luna’s annoyance, as her sister already has a boyfriend at home. There is no more mention of their father.
Panamanian writer-director Kattia G. Zúñiga wrote the screenplay for this warm coming-of-age story, her feature debut. It is based on her own memories of a trip she took with her sister as a teenager.
