Kabul, City in the Wind opening film IDFA

debut of Aboozar Amini, one of last years jury members, will be released in january 2019

Aboozar Amini (Afghanistan, 1985) is no stranger to WCA: he was invited to present his short film Angelus Novus to the audience in 2015; his next short film, Where is Kurdistan?, was screened at the festival in 2016; and in 2017 he was one of the faces on the WCA campaign posters. Kabul, City in the Wind is a modest, profound and powerful portrait of daily life in Afghanistan's scourged capital Kabul.

Amsterdam premiere on January 24

Amini (1985) arrived as a 14 yo refugee in the Netherlands together with his brother. For Kabul, City in the Wind he returned to his land of origine. The film tells the story of young teenager Afshin, who looks after his younger brother Benjamin. Their father works abroad, so Afshin is now the man in the house. Director Amini follows the boys as they walk the long road from home to a store where they are going to buy tea and sugar. This walk impressively evokes the world of these two youngsters. Kabul, City in the Wind will premiere in Rialto on the January 24.
