For the first time in 10 years, World Cinema Amsterdam shows three family films during the film festival. Why? Because more and more Dutch kids have non-Western roots and do not recognize themselves sufficiently in the range of children films that now consists of films from the US, the Netherlands and Scandinavia. World Cinema Amsterdam wants to change this and presents a small but nice programme with worldly films during its anniversary edition.
Collaboration with Mooov
The titles come from our partner Mooov from Flanders. They have purchased children's and family films from non-Western countries for the same reason as we and want to offer these to Dutch film theatres and education from this fall. Films that are suitable to go to with the whole family and to take a friend.
Family films in our programme
There is something to see for the little ones as well as the older kids. The selected films are:
1. Chuskit (9+), Priya Ramasubban (India, 2018, 89’, Dutch subtitles) Dutch premiere. True story about a brave girl growing up in the Himalayas who becomes paralyzed after an accident. She doesn't just give up.
2. Pahuna (9+), Paakhi A. Tyrewala (Nepal, 2018, 88’, Dutch subtitles) Dutch premiere. Cheerful, light-hearted family film full of fantasy, innocence and warmth. Join brave Pranay and Amrita from Nepal on their exciting journey through an unspoilt country.
3. Een streepje meer (3+), Var. directors (var. countries, 2019, 46’, no dialogue). One may have an extra stripe; another one may be of a different colour... But does it matter? Of course not! Just watch this charming compilation film for the little ones.
