Films from Latin America during WCA

Every year, films from Latin America are strongly represented during our film festival. For our 10th edition we are again showing a series of beautiful films from this region. Both in our Competition programme, World Cinema Specials, the Open Air and of course during Go CUBA!- programme.

Competition

All nine competition films are eligible for the World Cinema Jury Award, to which a prize amount of €5,000 is attached. The programme can be seen in Rialto and De Balie.

World Cinema Specials

During World Cinema Specials we show films that can be seen in Dutch cinemas later this year.

  2. Monos - Alejandro Landes ( Colombia, 2019, 102’)
  3. Nuestro tiempo - Carlos Reygadas (Mexico, 2018, 173’)
  4. Rojo - Benjamín Naishtat (Argentina, 2018, 109’)

Botero - Don Millar (Canada, 2018, 82’). This film is being shown once in the context of our art program Cracking the Frame and does not appear in Dutch cinemas.

WCA Open Air

This summer you can once again enjoy four beautiful World Cinema Amsterdam films on Marie Heinekenplein and Vondelpark Open Air Theater and the VU campus. Two of these movies are from Cuba and Argentina.

GO CUBA!

GO CUBA! helps young and debuting filmmakers in Cuba realize independent film productions. This year we present the new films of the project:

  2. La teoría cubana de la sociedad perfecta - Ricardo Figueredo (Cuba, 2019, 60’)
