Us in Between

"We had to tell the story. It's almost like a calling," says Ghanaian director Shirley Frimpong-Manso, showing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in her country in her latest film. It was not easy, as she was forced to film some scenes during lockdown – with all the associated risks. She dedicated the film to all the people who were the first to start fighting the outbreak.

Inevitably, more and more people are infected with coronavirus worldwide in 2020. Though things are still relatively calm in Ghana and the capital Accra, young nurse Emelia urges the laconic hospital management to finally make some real preparations. Meanwhile, she has also become involved in a new romantic affair that will test her faith in love. When the first infection is established, everything goes terribly wrong; politicians are not taking the pandemic very seriously either.

SHIRLEY FRIMPONG-MANSO (1977, Ghana) is a producer, writer and director known for Potomanto (2013), Grey Dawn (2015) and Devil in the Detail (2014). Her production credits also include A Sting In A Tale (2009) and The Perfect Picture (2019). She is Chief Executive Officer of Sparrow Productions and a former radio personality. Her Covid-19 drama Us in Between was partly shot during the lockdown in Ghana.
