A warm welcome: Cinema De Vlugt joins as a festival location of World Cinema Amsterdam. With several interesting programme components, Cinema De Vlugt will be the place to experience WCA in New-West for a week.
About Cinema De Vlugt
With a filmhouse just a stone's throw away from Plein '40-'45, Cinema De Vlugt offers a film stage for the largest urban district in Amsterdam: Nieuw-West. A sustainable film education programme for the youngest inhabitants of the district is also an important pillar in their offer.
Why at WCA?
Cinema De Vlugt is run bij Stichting Oxville. Stichting Oxville is building a house where New West meets through the experience of film. For the residents, by the residents. In other words: community cinema. They work from within the community and involve it in their programming and activities. This way, the cinema is in close contact with the neighbourhood through intensive cooperation with local community centres and other local institutions in order to realise a tailor-made film offer. Just like World Cinema Amsterdam, Stichting Oxville believes that cinema is an excellent way to bring the audience to introspection, new insights and empathy. At Cinema De Vlugt and WCA, connection, meeting, discovery and free exchange of ideas are central.
Cinema De Vlugt has good facilities for disabled visitors. There is a disabled lift next to the stairs and a wheelchair space can be created in the first row in our cinema room on the first floor. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet on the ground floor in the café.
