World Cinema Exchange Award

The search for the most thought-provoking movie

What type of movie will trigger an exchange of views between viewers? Obviously, a movie that touches you at a deeper level. You may be moved, surprised or even irritated by the images, the characters or the story itself. In any event: when a movie touches you, you can’t stop talking about it.

Nominated films

The World Cinema Exchange Award jury will look for the most thought-provoking movie. Because these days people seem to be living in their own bubble, this award goes to a movie that invites you to step into another world. A movie that succeeds best in generating a meaningful conversation about things that matter.

The nominated films are all films from Competition.

The prize

The award-winning director will receive € 2500 to be spent on a new film project.

The jury

The World Cinema Exchange Award jury is comprised of three young moviegoers who enjoy taking part in meaningful ‘film-talks’.

In the selection of the award-winning movie the jury is guided by three questions:

  • How does the movie trigger an exchange of views between moviegoers?
  • What images of humanity and world views does the movie bring across and how can this feed a meaningful conversation?
  • What are the artistic merits of the movie, in what ways is it innovative?
